We're thrilled to announce that yet another DFM client landed a big magazine feature this month! Price Latimer Agah, an art dealer, consultant, and restauranteur based here in Los Angeles, was featured in the June/July 2013 issue of Lucky Magazine. The feature covers Latimer Agah's love of surfing, exploring Downtown LA's cutting-edge food and bar scene (she is the co-owner of the Arts District restaurant Pizzanista), and her love of LA boutique Creatures of Comfort. Rue Magazine Features DFM Clients

We're pleased to announce that not one, but two DFM clients were featured in the June/July 2013 and first ever wedding issue of Rue Magazine! Trumpet & Horn, our vintage engagement ring and estate jewelry client, had one of their stunning vintage emerald engagement rings featured on the cover of the magazine and in the "Oh La La Shangri-La" editorial. Stephanie Bradshaw's brand new studio space was featured as a "Studio Tour", along with some of the brand story behind her buzzing events & interiors design business. Congratulations to Trumpet & Horn and Stephanie Bradshaw, we're so happy for you both!

Job Posting: Part-Time Graphic Designer

DFM is currently seeking a part-time Graphic Designer!

We're looking for a candidate with solid design skills for both print and web with a robust, well-rounded portfolio. Previous experience with both packaging and website design are a definite plus.

Our ideal designer will be entry or mid-level with part-time availability (3 days per week).

We are a small, powerful, and dedicated team that works fast and accomplishes a lot. This job will be demanding, but flexible and rewarding. Job duties will vary greatly by client; whether you'll be helping design a new company logo, building a lookbook, designing a new packaging concept from start to finish, meeting with clients, styling a photo shoot, or assisting with website design - there's something new every week.

We love what we do, and we often tend to be a part of the target audience for the brands we're building or designing for. Many of our clients are in the fashion, beauty, and retail industries; if that sounds like a good fit, we'd love to hear from you!

What you need for this position:

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience designing for print and web
  • Part-time availability
  • A degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Design & Media Art, or other related field

Experience with Lightroom, HTML, CSS, Magento, Business Catalyst, and Wordpress a plus, but not required.

Seeking a Summer Marketing Intern

DFM is seeking a Summer Marketing / Social Media Intern!

We're looking for a talented student or recent graduate with a passion for social media. We're looking for someone that is studying Marketing, Business, or Communications (or another related field), but also has a creative mind with a love for art and design.

Maybe you're currently a student at UCLA or USC. Or maybe you're a recent graduate still trying to figure out exactly what kind of job you want. Perhaps you're a business student with a minor in Art, or maybe you're an English major with a passion for writing and an entrepreneurial spirit. Most likely you love art and design, and are not often found without your iPhone within a 5 foot radius of you at all times.

As a DFM intern, you will be working in a small studio environment with plenty of opportunity for hands-on action. You will be assisting with marketing plans & research, social media / blogging for clients, and developing the DFM social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and our blog.

What we're NOT looking for is an intern that makes copies and gets us coffee. We're looking for a creative / analytical thinker that likes to work hard and have fun while doing it. We offer a whole lot of hands-on experience with actual clients in the creative industry, as well as a learning environment that will foster your creative potential.

As an intern, we're looking for someone to come in 2-3 days a week over the summer. Although this position is unpaid (school credit is available), we offer a laid-back studio environment and flexible working hours.

Basic knowledge of Photoshop and social media outlets such as Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram are a plus, but not required. A good attitude and a burning desire to learn are the basics of what you need to succeed with us.

Job Posting: Front-End Designer

DFM is currently seeking a Front-End Designer!

Our ideal Front End Designer/ Developer will be proficient in Adobe Design tools and have a fun design aesthetic with great attention to detail. The position will include utilizing HTML, CSS, and other web authoring tools to accurately translate a design into a finished web-based presentation. Strong knowledge of Photoshop, jQuery, Magento, Business Catalyst, and Wordpress are a major plus. This is an entry level position, and our ideal candidate is a recent graduate that still loves to learn new things as our client needs grow and change!

What you need for this position:

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • jQuery
  • Knowledge of some light server administration
  • Knowledge of page speed optimization and SEO best practices
What you'll be doing:

  • Taking a concept design and building out pages in Photoshop
  • Creating information architecture for an entire project in presentable format
  • Creating interactive websites using HTML5, CSS, Javascript, and jQuery
  • Hand-code validating HTML and CSS
  • Optimizing new and existing pages for size, load time, and speed
  • Taking a PSD and converting to cutups and validating HTML and CSS
  • Creating HTML e-mails (design & code)
  • Updating HTML for existing sites and streamlining workflow for ongoing updates

The West Coast based fashion line creates the most luxurious and comfortable basics to support any wardrobe and lifestyle. Velvet had a humble beginning as a contemporary t-shirt line and quickly expanded after the public went crazy over the high-quality fashion staples. We are extremely excited to work with a brand that embodies California cool and creates designs that are both timeless and effortless. DFM Instagram

To better document all the creativity that goes on in the DFM office on a daily basis, this month we decided to start using Instagram. Any of our team members, whether we're in the office, at the beach, or on vacation, can take a picture in Instagram, and using our custom hashtag, can push the photo to our new Instagram page: www.drawingfrommemory.com/instagram. "We Made This" is our tagline, because we're constantly making creative, beautiful, or inspired things both for work and play. Meet The DFM Team

We finally got around to taking a new photo for the website (click here to see our About Us page), and this time Jen is actually in it! Meet the DFM team & learn a little bit about each of us, from right to left:



  • Jen White, Creative Director & Founder: Jen has owned and operated DFM (assuming various names throughout the years) since she graduated from RISD with a BFA in Photography in 2001. Throughout the 10+ years she's been in business, Jen has produced hundreds of websites, logos, and visual materials, and continues her creative efforts as the Lead Designer and Creative Director of DFM as it exists today. A new mother of the most adorable baby ever, Jen is one extremely busy woman that loves her job, which shows through in every single thing DFM produces.

  • Kelly Johnson, Marketing Strategist & Project Coordinator: Kelly has assisted Jen with coordinating feedback and scheduling to meet deadlines and keep the train running since just after her graduation from the University of Denver (BSBA Marketing) in July 2011. She helps develop brand language, marketing plans, and initial directional ideas for clients, and keeps the office organized(ish) and well stocked with snacks. If you call the office it's likely she'll be the one to answer the phone, and she also manages DFM's social media outlets including Instagram, Facebook, and the DFM blog (while gloating to her friends that she can Instagram cool stuff around the office and legitimately call it "work").

  • Sheriah Altobar, Front-End Developer & Production: Since November 2011, Sheriah has been saving everyone's butts by producing the HTML & CSS needed to transition finalized designs into a fully functioning website. She holds a BA in Design & Media Arts from UCLA, but she learned the foundation of her technical wizarding ways by teaching herself how to read code using online videos and other resources while she was still in high school. The always curious tech-nerd of the DFM team, Sheriah works mostly on web projects but enjoys a good graphic design task now and again.

  • Gabbie Bautista, Graphic & Media Designer: Gabbie has produced graphics and detail artwork for DFM since March 2012, which makes her the newest member of our growing team. After graduating from the same program at UCLA as Sheriah last December (they didn't know each other, weird...), Gabbie joined DFM and has quickly learned more about web and technical aspects of design than she would really prefer. She strongly supports DFM's "female empowerment"  focus in the graphic / web design industry, and heads a design collective called "Lady Boss" to prove it.


*Not pictured: Sharon Noh, Business & 3 Dimensional Design: An original member of DFM, Sharon is responsible for print coordination, research, and primary appearance models. Jen and Sharon met while they were both students at RISD (Sharon holds a BFA in Printmaking), but Sharon decided to bum us all out and move to Chicago. With today's modern technology, the rest of the team has no problem e-mailing, phoning, and occasionally Skyping when Sharon's expertise is needed.

 

Stephanie Bradshaw Website Launch

We're a little late on announcing this launch as well, but we're happy to say the new website for interior designer / event planner Stephanie Bradshaw is up and running! Her logo and site reflect Stephanie's charming and fun personality, and the site is full of photos from her amazing events and interiors that she's styled recently. Stephanie works mainly in the Baltimore and Washington DC areas, and her new blog, SB Inspire, is a must read for anyone who appreciates great style, interior design, and fabulous weddings. Next up for Stephanie is a shop, where she will sell select pieces she loves for both interiors and fashion. Keep up the amazing work, Stephanie! Eight Sixty Website Launch

So we admit it. We're a bit late updating our News blog... we launched the site for LA fashion brand Eight Sixty in June and we're just now getting around to showing it off to the world! The site is now up and running, and it looks great. The wonderful team at Eight Sixty has taken full advantage of the Blog feature (last photo below), photographing Eight Sixty girls they see in Los Angeles wearing their designs. The site has a full-bleed, rotating slideshow for its home page - perfect for showing off the amazing designs in huge detail. We're looking forward to seeing the next season showcased on the site!
